Michael Francis Newman

Michael Francis Newman, 69, of  Metter, died Saturday,

July 24, 2010, at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro.

The Arkansas native was the son of Frank Newman and Evelyn Rambo.  He was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and a former Army Airborne Ranger.

Michael had lived in Savannah where he was a maitre d' at the 1790 Restaurant.  He moved to metter five years ago from New Orleans, LA after Hurricane Katrina.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are a daughter, Amy Edwards Biggers;

two grandchildren, Damien Edwards and Ethan Stewart,

all of Metter, Ga.

Memorial services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, Aug.1, 2010

at the Jack Strickland Community Center in Metter.
